Upstream Autumn
Watercolour on Archival Quality Paper | 14” x 20”
This piece, I feel this in my bones. A piece that is interconnected, a story about the seasons, surviving and being present. Pictured here is a bear, whether that be a black bear or grizzly… with an open jaw and hungry belly as it prepares to honour the wild spawning salmon swimming upstream for winter nourishment. Perhaps this is all you see, perhaps there is more. Zoom out, and the bottom jaw of the bear becomes Haida Gwaii…and the wild spawning salmon becomes Vancouver Island. Everything is interconnected. Turn this artwork on its side and it becomes the whole outline of the British Columbia Coast…travelling deep into the interior. This art speaks to where we live, our beautiful province, and the ecosystems that thrive here.
